CTV's Toy Mountain campaign, in partnership with The Salvation Army, launches its 13th annual toy drive from Sherway Gardens Mall in Mississauga, ON, this Thursday, November 20 between 12 Noon and 1 p.m. ET, and 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET - coinciding with CTV Toronto's Noon and 6 p.m. newscasts. In 2007, CTV's Toy Mountain received an incredible 95,000 toys, and has set this year's goal at 100,000 toys. CTV's Toy Mountain needs more help than ever before. Last May, a fire destroyed the Salvation Army warehouse that stores reserve toys intended to kick-start the 2008 campaign, meaning that this is the first year in over a decade that the campaign will have to start from scratch. This year, CTV kicks off the annual campaign with an opportunity for viewers to come to Sherway Gardens and meet CTV Toronto weather anchor Tom Brown, sports anchor Lance Brown and entertainment reporter Jacintha Wesselingh. Dropping by to help kick off the launch are Tara Spencer-Nairn from CORNER GAS; Blake McGrath, Luther Brown and the Top 8 finalists from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA, JUNO Award-winning singer Melanie Doane and Olympians Marnie McBean and Brian Orser. Viewers can also have their picture taken at the CTV Toronto anchor desk with a "virtual" Ken Shaw and Christine Bentley. In addition, the first 50 people that donate a toy at the launch will receive a special souvenir from CTV Toronto. "I'm proud to say that this is our 13th year supporting CTV's Toy Mountain," said Paul Rogers, Senior Vice-President of CTV Toronto. "This incredible initiative brings joy to so many children across the GTA and this year, despite our challenges, we're hoping to reach more children than ever before." "The Salvation Army is delighted to once again partner with CTV in helping bring Christmas to children across the GTA," said Captain John Murray from The Salvation Army. "Toys bring smiles and happiness to not only recipients but donors as well. The Salvation Army is especially privileged to help rebuild Toy Mountain after the devastating May, 2008 Railside Warehouse fire." The public can participate by donating a new, unwrapped toy to one of the many drop-off locations listed on ctvtoronto.ca.
