CTV Signs on as Founding Partner of My Canada
Seven Prominent Canadian Filmmakers Showcase Their Hometowns in New Film Series - My Canada scheduled to premiere in Vancouver in 2010 - Toronto, ON (September 5, 2008) - Producer Michael Burns along with CTV and project managing partners Arts and Communications, Nuria Bronfman, and Manifest Communications proudly announce My Canada - a series of director-narrated documentary films set to premiere in Vancouver in 2010. Canada's top filmmakers create iconoclastic, personal film "odes" to their hometowns, capturing a cosmopolitan picture of contemporary Canada. The announcement comes as CTV prepares to salute Canadian and international filmmakers at tonight's eTalk Festival Party. A celebration of Canada's film talent and the country's diversity, My Canada is the brainchild of Michael Burns, Executive Producer of Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg. Building on My Winnipeg's critical acclaim and grass roots success, the My Canada series includes new feature-length documentary films. Internationally-renowned filmmakers confirmed to date include Atom Egoyan (Victoria), Julia Kwan (Vancouver), Gary Burns (Calgary), Charles Binamé (Montréal), Don McKellar (Toronto), Patricia Rozema (Sarnia), and Thom Fitzgerald (Halifax). Many of the filmmakers are expected to attend this evening's eTalk Festival Party. The My Canada films are planned to premiere in Vancouver in 2010, before hitting the road on a cross-country tour of unique cultural events later that year. "CTV is thrilled to support this country's filmmakers and this unique project that will debut when the eyes of the world will be upon Canada," said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. "The My Canada series gives Canadians and the world at large a glimpse into our thriving and diverse country. The high-calibre filmmakers know and love the communities they're profiling, giving viewers intimate film tours from an insider's perspective." "We Canadians can now begin the long-overdue process of thoroughly documenting, mythologizing and honouring our great living cities and the lives lived within them," said Guy Maddin. "And what better time to premiere these filmic cenotaphs than in 2010. This is a project that will show us who we are!" "This project is a film producer's dream come true, being able to work with Canada's most talented filmmakers in this way", said Michael Burns, film producer. "We are thrilled that CTV has recognized the importance and cultural value of this project and joined us as the only founding partner. This is a project which will be a revelation to Canada and the world." Each of the My Canada films are produced by Michael Burns. The project is in the developmental stage, and being produced and managed by Arts and Communications, Nuria Bronfman, and Manifest Communications.
