August Programming Keeps Summer Hot on CTV

Program Alert - July 31, 2008

Flashpoint, Canadian Idol, Instant Star, Greek and So You Think You Can Dance continue with all-new episodes this August on CTV.

Programming highlights for July 31 - August 24 include:

Rusty goes through initiation in Greek (Aug. 1)

Tensions mount in the Season 3 finale of The Hills (Aug. 3)

Tom Jones performs on Canadian Idol (Aug. 5)

America's favourite dancer is chosen in the two-hour finale of So You Think You Can Dance (Aug. 7)

Nicholas Campbell guest-stars as a desperate bank robber in Flashpoint (Aug. 7)

Canadian icon Anne Murray performs on the Canadian Idol stage (August 19)

The girls are back in town in Season 4 of the CTV premiere of The Hills (Aug 19)

Tommy and Jude are falling in love, but Jude's got some important decisions to make, in the season finale of Instant Star (Aug. 31)

Thursday, July 31

10 p.m. - Flashpoint - "Asking for Flowers" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Rebecca Kessfield (Chandra West) speeds across town, praying under her breath. Bursting into a little house in the Beaches, she finds her sister Sadie on the bathroom floor, kidney-punched, throwing up blood, a newborn baby crying in the bedroom. The problem is Sadie's abusive husband is a cop. Enraged, Rebecca takes Pete's (Kenneth Mitchell) gun from a drawer and heads to Pete's local cop bar. When Rebecca takes Pete to his sailboat on the waterfront - the place he married her sister, the perfect place for a troubled cop to "commit suicide" - she has no idea that Ed, Jules, and the SRU are one step ahead of her, pulling out all the stops in a desperate effort to protect one of their own.

Friday, August 1

9 p.m. - Greek - "Hazed and Confused" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Rusty, Calvin, and Rebecca Logan go through initiation at their respective houses, Kappa Tau, Omega Chi and Zeta Beta. Rusty struggles to juggle class and initiation as his commitment to Dale and the Physics class assignment come in direct conflict with the beer pong competition against the Omega Chis. Meanwhile Casey, in her attempt to punish Rebecca Logan for sleeping with Evan, gives her the most challenging scavenger hunt assignment and is later exposed heightening the rivalry between the two.

Saturday, August 2

9 p.m. - Flashpoint - "Asking for Flowers" - ENCORE EPISODE

10 p.m. - Comedy Now! - "Phil Hanley" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Winner of Vancouver's Funniest Comic Competition, Vancouver native Phil Hanley has appeared on stages across the country, including the Halifax Comedy Festival, The Vancouver Comedy Festival, and the 2008 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. A rising star on the Canadian comedy circuit, Hanley also recently had the honour of working with the legendary Don Knotts on his latest film project.

Sunday, August 3

7 p.m. - Instant Star - "Mistake" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Jude's third album hits the shelves and is an overwhelming flop. Shattered by the news, Jude turns to Megan for help.

7:30 p.m. - The Hills - "The Next Move Is Yours" - SEASON FINALE

Audrina decides she should look for her own place, after feeling left out. Lauren and Lo try to reach out to Audrina, but are unsuccessful. Stephanie and Spencer track down Heidi in Las Vegas, who is there on business. Afraid Heidi may move to Vegas, Spencer makes his case about his feelings for her. Heidi, Spencer and Stephanie leave Vegas together - it looks as if their relationship vacation is over.

8 p.m. - High School Musical: Get In The Picture - "Want to be in High School 3?" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

It's elimination night, and Tom Jones will perform on the Idol stage before one singer is sent home.

Wednesday, August 6

8 p.m. - So You Think You Can Dance - ALL-NEW EPISODE

The final four dancers perform with the hope of becoming America's favourite dancer.

Thursday, August 7

8 p.m. - So You Think You Can Dance - SEASON FINALE

In the two-hour finale, one dancer is chosen as the winner.

10 p.m. - Flashpoint - "Who's George" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

When the infamous Monday Morning Robber's takedown of a major bank goes south, the SRU must use every tactical trick in the book to save the robber's hostages, before he makes good on his threat to kill them all. But Parker's brilliant negotiating and police work reveals a real shocker: the robber is a copycat. In fact, it's George Orston (Nicholas Campbell), former head of security at the bank. By the time Parker makes this connection, George is holed up with one last hostage: the woman who fired him in the first place. Now it's a race against the clock as Parker discovers George is stealing money to keep his sick wife in a care home.

Friday, August 8

9 p.m. - Greek - "The Rusty Nail" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Omega Chi and Kappa Tau both organize respective date nights. When Cappie sees Rusty stressed about getting a date for the social, he realizes it's because Rusty is a virgin and sets him up with the campus door knob, Lisa Lawson. Despite her plan to turn things around with Evan during date night, Casey is unable to sit still when she hears this news and goes to the Kappa Tau house to save Rusty from making a big mistake...as we find out Cappie was Casey's first.

Sunday, August 10

7 p.m. - Instant Star - "Every Breath You Take" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

When Rock n Roll Honeymoon premieres, Karma is mortified when she is reduced to the role of villain in her on-screen life and Speed becomes the fan favourite.

7:30 p.m. - Samantha Who? - "Pilot"

Samantha (Christina Applegate) awakens in the hospital and is surrounded by family and friends. The only problem is that she has no idea who they are - or who she is. Sam has retrograde amnesia, which allows her to fully function in the world but leaves her with no personal memories. Most people would deem this disorder a curse, but Sam may come to call it a miracle when she discovers what a horrible person she was before the accident.

Monday, August 11

8 p.m. - High School Musical: Get In The Picture - "Connect" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

10 p.m. - Flashpoint - "Attention Shoppers" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Tasha Redford (Sarah Gadon) - an awkward 16-year old with a chronically alcoholic mother - has always been a perfect target for bullies. When a dangerous gang inflicts a vicious and humiliating "uglying-up" on Tasha at her after-school job at a mall, she finally explodes. Grabbing one of the girls' guns, she blindly pulls the trigger in self-defense - hitting one of the gang members. SRU arrives, but Tasha and her tormentors have scattered. In a sweep of the mall, Jules tracks Tasha to an outdoor advertising tower. She's perched precariously on a rail eight storeys above the street. Can Jules get Tasha to trust her before she lets go? Will Jules' strength be enough to keep this tormented girl alive?

In the midst of the floor hockey tourney, Evan questions Casey's loyalty considering her brother and ex-boyfriend are both Kappas. Casey quells that suspicion by successfully caring out a plan to make the Kappas too hungover for their game against the Omega Chis. Rusty, desperate to play for the team but without a single athletic bone in his body, gets the help of Dale who suggests they take a scientific approach to the game. This comes in handy when, with all the brothers drunk, Cappie has no choice but to allow Rusty to play.

Saturday, August 16

10 p.m. - Comedy Now! - "Casey Corbin" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Casey Corbin's friendly down-home approach has made him a crowd pleaser over the last few years. He began performing in Ottawa, but now makes his home in front of audiences all across Canada. In 2001, Casey was nominated for "Funniest Newcomer" at the Canadian Comedy Awards. He has opened headliners such as Mike MacDonald, Mitch Hedberg and Russell Peters. In the fall of 2005, Casey was personally chosen by Harland Williams to open for him on his "Tasty Treats Tour" and, in 2007, Corbin had the honour of performing at the 25th Anniversary of Just For Laughs in Montreal.

Sunday, August 17

7 p.m. - Instant Star - "She Walks On Me" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

When Jude needs money to remix her album and agrees to appear in a Japanese commercial, Megan is angered about the "sell out."

7:30 p.m. - Samantha Who? - "The Wedding"

Overjoyed that somebody must have liked her, Sam jumps at the chance to assume her role as bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. However she shows up to the wedding only to learn she's been uninvited by the bride. At first dejected - and then motivated by the challenge of vindication - Sam sets out to apologize and be re-accepted by the bride, as a result leaving Dena in the dust yet again.

8 p.m. - High School Musical: Get In The Picture - "Roll With the Punches" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

8:30 p.m. - The Hills - CTV PREMIERE

The girls of The Hills are back for another season, and it's finally summertime in L.A.! Since Lo has moved in with Lauren and Audrina, tensions have risen and they are learning that three's a crowd. Whitney is still working at People's Revolution and Lauren joins her after impressing boss-lady Kelly Cutrone. Spencer convinced Heidi to bail on a promotion with Bolthouse, and the chance to start over in Las Vegas, so Heidi is back in L.A.

Friday, August 22

9 p.m. - Greek - "Liquid Courage" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

When the Kappa Taus have trouble making the volcano for their legendary Mt. Vesuvius party work properly Rusty volunteers to make it happen. With the help of Dale and Jen K, a ZBZ pledge, Rusty is able to steal an outmoded atmospheric destabilizing module to plant inside the volcano for the eruption effect. Meanwhile, Casey and Evan are back on track and Evan introduces Casey to his parents over dinner. However, Rebecca makes an unexpected appearance and instantly bonds with Evan's parents leaving Casey to feel like an outsider of this blue-blood clan.

Saturday, August 23

10 p.m. - Comedy Now! - "Jennifer Grant" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

Profiled as a rising star on the comedy circuit, Jennifer Grant placed third out of 96 comics in the Boston International Comedy Competition, awarding her the distinction of being the first woman and the first Canadian to make it to the finals. Performing in the 2007 Great Canadian Laugh Off on The Comedy Network, as well as the Halifax Comedy Festival in 2007, Grant has also participated in a military show tour, traveling to Egypt and Israel to entertain troops. Serving as the opening act to the Puppetry of the Penis Tour across Western Canada, she has also attended festivals such as The Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, The Boston Comedy Festival, and the Vancouver Comedy Festival.

Sunday, August 24

7 p.m. - Instant Star - "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" - ALL-NEW EPISODE

When the G Major team is away building morale at a spa retreat, Jude is left to deal with a very disturbed Megan.

7:30 p.m. - Samantha Who? - "The Girlfriend"

Samantha is forced to move back into the apartment when she discovers that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd, who has just invited his new girlfriend, Chloe (Kiele Sanchez, Lost), to move in with him. Meanwhile, when Sam fails to show up for a makeover night with her mom, Regina and Dena end up bonding and having a girls' night at the house.
