CTV's Dr. Marla Shapiro to Receive National Award for Commitment to Family Medicine CTV confirmed today that CTV News' Health and Medical Expert Dr. Marla Shapiro will be honoured with an Award of Excellence from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for her lifelong commitment and dedication to family medicine in Canada.

A regular contributor to CTV's Canada AM and medical consultant for CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson, Dr. Shapiro will receive the award at a ceremony on November 28, 2008 in Toronto.

The CFPC's Awards of Excellence recognize health care professionals who have made an outstanding contribution to family medicine in Canada, from patient and hospital care to community service, teaching and research.

An active member in all areas of the health community, Dr. Shapiro is an editor and columnist with Parents Canada magazine, and the author of the national best-seller Life in the Balance: My Journey with Breast Cancer. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and has a private practice in Toronto.

Dr. Shapiro can be seen Tuesday mornings on Canada AM at 7:15 a.m., outlining ways that Canadians can keep their families healthy; Dr. Shapiro also contributes to CTV's health blog, Your Health, on CTV.ca every week.
